CBCT
A CBCT (Cone-Beam Computed Tomography) is a three-dimensional (3D) important diagnostic tool that reveals more information on an area of infection in the mouth, the empty spaces between anatomy (such as nasal cavity and sinuses), oral pathology, root canal treated teeth, sinus infections, and most importantly: airway space for optimal breathing. They let us see ‘hidden’ sites around teeth that we normally don’t see with a traditional 2D dental X-ray.
It’s like being able to see around the corner of a long hallway. It allows us to differentiate if a root canal treated tooth has an active infection, if left-over remnants from an extracted tooth remain (cavitation), and other situations in which getting a 3D view tells us another side of the story traditional x-rays leave out.
Most frequently at our office, our patients are getting CBCT’s to evaluate airway space. A CBCT for the airway is a adjunctive tool we can send with referrals to Ears Nose and Throat doctors (ENT’s) to evaluate deviated septums, enlarged turbinates, or polyps in the nose. Typically when a dentist office takes a CBCT the image is reviewed by the dentist in the office. Usually, the dentist has taken some weekend courses where they learned how to interpret these CBCT’s. However, at Rooted Dental, we believe a dentist reviewing a CBCT is not comprehensive enough. Therefore, we take an additional diagnostic protocol that provides our patients with a more comprehensive diagnosis and information. This is done by Rooted Dental sending each and every CBCT that comes across Dr. Tinoco’s desk to be evaluated by an Oral Maxillofacial Radiologist with a detailed report. This extra step is included in the price of the procedure and is how we deliver the gold standard of care to each of our patients. Call our office to schedule your CBCT image. (805) 270-4259.
